For several years leaseholders in flats with cladding and other building safety issues have had difficulty selling because potential buyers have had difficulty getting mortgages on impacted buildings. Natan Bram and Simon Heydecker-Dent from the department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities will provide an overview of the protections brought in by the Building Safety Act, the solutions now in place to fix buildings in England over 11 metres and how this has helped unblock the mortgage market. Natan Bram is the Policy Lead for Mortgages, Valuation and EWS1s within the Safer Greener Buildings Group at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC). The Group works to resolve the fire safety risks of unsafe cladding on buildings following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, and steward the building system of the future. He was previously an official at the Department for Transport and HM Treasury.

Data Lead for Mortgages, Valuation and EWS1s , Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities

Simon Heydecker-Dent is the Data Lead for Mortgages, Valuation and EWS1s within the Safer Greener Buildings Group at DLUHC. His role is to facilitate the two-way stream of information between DLUHC and stakeholders in the mortgage ecosystem and enable robust, data-based policy decisions. He has worked in DLUHC for eight years, and was previously an official at the Office of the Public Guardian, an agency of the Ministry of Justice.
