To be compliant with the latest requirements, carefully review the updated guidance. Staying informed and following these changes is essential for maintaining best practices and avoiding potential liabilities. The updates include:
A simplification of the content: reducing the level of technical detail related to digital checks for holders of British and Irish passports or Irish passport cards. Much of this detail was previously intended for providers of digital verification services.
A revision of terminology: with ‘Digital Verification Service (DVS) now used to encapsulate terms such as Identity Service Providers (IDSPs) and Identity Document Validation Technology (IDVT). This has been introduced to coincide with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology publishing the newly reformatted publications of the ‘supplementary code’ for digital right-to-rent checks, in line with the terminology used in the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.
For landlords and letting agents: The standalone supplementary code copies and replaces the rules for DVS, which were previously contained within this guidance, and can now be found in the supplementary code for digital right-to-rent checks.
Updating reference to eVisas advising individuals who may be issued a vignette to travel to the UK, that they must apply for an eVisa as soon as possible, even before travelling.
Re-formatting of Annex D: letter templates and Annex E: List of acceptable professionals.
