My director is not a member
UTILISE THE GRANDFATHERING SCHEME
The Grandfathering Scheme' enables your director to join without having to become qualified first. They would instead nominate you (once you're a qualified member) during their application process; you must be qualified to at least Level 3 standard (Level 6 for Scotland).
Once your director is a member, the agency would become ARLA Propertymark Protected through their membership and you will be able to upgrade to the Member or Fellow grade.
Can I use the logo and designatory letters?
Student and Associate grade members are not able to use the logo or designatory letters until their membership is upgraded. Only members who work for an ARLA Propertymark Protected company can use the logo, this means that the director is a member and we regulate the company as part of their membership. We do this to limit any uncertainties consumers may have surrounding the protection afforded to them by our members.
Can I claim tax relief on my membership fee?
Propertymark is an HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) approved professional body. We are registered as either ‘Residential Letting Agents Association of’ or ‘Estate Agents National Association of’ depending on your type of membership. This means that if you are a UK taxpayer, you may be able to claim the relief on our membership.
How to claim
EMPLOYEES: If you are an employee of an organisation, then you can claim tax relief on your annual self-assessment return or via the HMRC P87 form.
If you employer pays your membership fee on your behalf, they may already have an exemption with HMRC so that you will not be taxed. Your employers could also include our fees on your annual P11D form which then you can claim on your self-assessment return.
SELF-EMPLOYED: Membership fees may be deductible as an allowable expense before you calculate your taxable profits. When you join Propertymark, or on renewal of your membership you will be provided with a receipt of payment, and this can be used as evidence to support your claim.
