Building construction and defects
Whilst estate agents are not surveyors the greater your knowledge of how construction techniques and defects interlink, the more you are fully able to advise your clients.
Both parts of this course support the Propertymark Level 3 qualification in The Sale of Residential Property unit 4 entitled Property Appraisal and Basic Building Construction and defects.
Part A: Basic building construction
Part A will explain the differences between property styles and ages. It will provide an explanation of basic building construction with over 170 slides and 340 photographs covering :
- Roofs and roof coverings
- Gutters and downpipes
- Windows and doors
Part B: Common property defects and repair
The second part of this course identifies the major causes of defects in properties and how they can be repaired to help both sellers and buyers in the sale process, covering:
- Penetrating damp
- Rising damp
- Timber defects including wet and dry rot and beetle infestation
- Cracking to walls
- Foundation movement and underpinning
