MTD was introduced in April 2026 for landlords with turnover of £50,000 or more.  This is a fundamental change in reporting to HMRC of property income and needs immediate action as many landlords first quarterly return is due to HMRC on 7 August 2026.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is a new way for sole traders and landlords to report their income and expenses to HMRC. Letting agents can undertake this process on behalf of the landlords and help their clients understand the changes.

Mark Stemp

Partner, Crowe UK

Mark is a partner at the national accounting and tax firm Crowe UK LLP.  He is based in their London office close to St Paul’s.  Mark supports landlords and their agents by helping them with their taxation.  Current work involves supporting them gifting on to the next generation, trust planning and using family investment companies.  He is also the lead partner implementing the new Making Tax Digital for Income Tax services at the firm.
