More accurate information for agents
A UPRN is a unique number assigned to an addressable location. Unlike a written address, it remains a consistent reference even when addresses appear differently across systems.
Linking UPRNs to Price Paid Data should help agents and property portals match previous sale prices to the correct home. This could reduce errors caused by inconsistent address formats, similar property names, or duplicate records.
It should also make it easier to build a clear transaction history for an individual property. Agents will be better placed to support market appraisals and give buyers and sellers reliable evidence about previous sales.
INSPIRE IDs identify specific areas of land shown on a map. They can connect transaction values with land parcels and boundaries, supporting more detailed analysis of properties, sites and local markets.
Greater clarity for buyers and sellers
Better matching between price, address and location records should give consumers a clearer view of a property’s sales history. It may also reduce confusion where an address has changed or appears in different formats, helping information flow more smoothly during a transaction.
The identifiers could also improve property data services and digital tools used by consumers and professionals. HM Land Registry says linking datasets more reliably will support better analysis, reporting and innovation across the property market.
Accessing the new data
The lookup tables will be available through HM Land Registry’s existing public data channels. Users will be able to download the identifiers and add them to their existing matching, analysis and reporting processes.
The change will apply to monthly Price Paid Data published from 28 August 2026 onwards. Identifiers will not be added retrospectively to previously published datasets.
